Ultrasound abortion provision revived in Florida House

Posted on Wed, Mar 18th, 2009| Categories: U.S.|

A measure that would require all women seeking an abortion to get an ultrasound exam and have the option to view the scan was revived Wednesday, after the state Senate rejected a similar proposal last year in a dramatic 20-20 tie vote.

Following more than an hour of debate, the House Health Care Regulation Committee cast a party-line 5-2 in favor of the bill, with supporters saying the ultrasound provision helps women make informed medical decisions and helps doctors prevent complications.

My comment on Governor Huckabee's Washington Times Article, which is Second to None!
The second page is below.

Hurrah!!!!!!  Very well said Governor Huckabee.  There is one thing though, it is not even a question of being conservative anymore.  The ideal to follow and Defend is the following the Constitution now!  We have so many illegal spending issues and those socialist programs already in place that the Federal level that are the monster coming up.  We still have troops in Nations from World War One and Two.  We have court Cases that have and do hold the Tax Structure of this Nation as to being unconstitutional.  We have Supreme Court Rulings that have re-defined the Constitution and the power of the Federal Government, i.e. commerce clause, gun laws, liniment domain, etc.  The States need to put the Federal Government funding into escrow until Constitutional conduct returns, with the exception of the powers granted to the Federal Government per fundamental reading of the Constitution, 20 specific powers in all I believe.  Get rid of the Federal Reserve system and go back to Congressional control as prescribed by the Constitution.

It is time to map out a course of action to bring the Federal Government back to it's one simple position, being the Sheriff of America.  We need to get the treasury of our States back to the States and let the States decide on what to do.  If a need for a group of States to come together for a social program is wanted, let it be managed under the umbrella of the Board of Governors and let it be strictly voluntary.

As Governor Huckabee say's, "We don't need so much to redefine conservatism. Just practice the real thing."

HUCKABEE: Put conservatism into practice
page 2

Over the past few years, Republicans have been either acquiescing in or encouraging the acquisition of more power and control by the federal government - in policy shifts in education, health care, and even how a driver's license looks.

During my 10 years as a governor, a constant battle raged with my own federal government over such programs as "Real I. D.," which was a federally conceived idea to force states to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to re-format the look of a state-issued drivers license so it would become the equivalent of a federal ID card.

Of course, no member of Congress wanted to come out and advocate an actual federal ID card, so forcing the states to make the driver's license the substitute seemed brilliant to Washington.

What they didn't really think about or seem to care the least about, despite the numerous attempts by governors, Democrat and Republican to explain, was that a state driver's license is just what it claims to be - a license to drive a motor vehicle. It is not proof of citizenship, good behavior or church attendance, and the people who work the counter at the state Department of Motor Vehicles are not trained law enforcement officers, immigration officials, CIA agents or detectives. They are typically entry-level state employees who do their best, but are hardly the choice front line of defense to catch a potential terrorist by discovering their true identity.

Ditto that for reforming the Medicaid program.

Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner - now Sen. Warner - and I spent many frustrating days on Capitol Hill trying to convince House and Senate members that the Medicaid program was out of control, financially unsustainable, and needed flexibility at the state level. Thanks primarily to Congressmen Joe L. Barton of Texas and Nathan Deal of Georgia, we finally were able to convince Congress that some of the decisions for the program could be made better if made closer to the people being served.

Perhaps no other example is more glaring than having painfully watched so-called Washington conservatives abandon the most fundamental principle of conservatism - fiscal restraint. A Republican administration pushed for and got the authority to spend $700 billion that we had to borrow from our grandchildren's future so we could do what government has no business doing - picking out winners and losers in the private sector marketplace.

It was especially disgusting to me to watch some of the very leaders who had smugly dismissed my candidacy for president because I had the audacity to speak out against the excesses of Wall Street and Washington as early as February 2007 now stand up and flop-sweat as they explained why they were about to support the government taking off the striped shirts of the referee and put on the jersey of a team to play the game for one team against another all in the name of "saving the markets."

By abandoning our bedrock conservative principles, and those of our founding fathers, they risked ruining our country to save the markets.

What gives me hope is my belief that the party of Reagan will reunite behind the consistent conservative policies that have made our country great - policies that empower individuals, families, and entrepreneurs, not government, to shape our own destinies. If we do that, we will not fail.

We don't need so much to redefine conservatism. Just practice the real thing.

Jefferson on Government Tax Oppression

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, and give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; And the sixteen being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they do now, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; But be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains around the necks of our fellow sufferers; And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second, that second for a third, and so on 'til the bulk of society is reduced to mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering...and the forehorse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression. -- Thomas Jefferson

The Kabuki Theater of AIG Outrage

All the world's a stage, wrote Shakespeare, and in the world of Washington, the curtains have opened on the most elaborate farce of the year. Welcome, taxpayers, to the Kabuki Theater of AIG Outrage – where D.C.'s histrionic enablers of taxpayer-funded corporate bailouts compete for Best Performance of Hypocritical Indignation.

Over the weekend, cloaked in their finest populist costumes, the Beltway's hair-sprayed and powdered politicians and White House aides took to the airwaves to inveigh against $165 million in employee retention payments paid out by the government-backed insurance giant. Those bennies were reportedly part of a larger $450 million round of bonuses. After subpoenaing AIG, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo informed Congress that 73 employees in the very division responsible for the financial meltdown received bonuses of $1 million or more – 11 of whom left the company after getting the cash to retain them....

***

Pete Hoekstra Everybody bashing AIG. How did we get in a position that this could happen from a govt and business standpoint. Something is really wrong.

***

my comment on all this:

This is a shell game.  watch the shell and don't watch the coupe datant.  Nationalism of all Companies, busniess is on stage and being done, while the populis is drawn in on emotion.

First off, the AIG bailout and most spending in Washington is unconstitutional.

Second, the Feds have no authority to control the company, any company, as even if they gave them 100% of value, it is still private. And the Constitution says that the Federal Government nor anyone can make a law causing any contract to be made void.

The problem here is, our government has become a despot tryannical regime!

Detroit is in Depression NOW 21% unemployment!: Why the MI FairTax Message is "Of the essence" |

Might I add the National Fair Tax plan also is needed, yesterday.

The Great Depression has reached Detroit. The average price of a home is now $18,513 and unemployment has reached 21%. Home values have plummeted to levels not seen in 1/2 a century… and the 21% unemployment has in some cases been projected to double within 12 months if the auto industry totally collapses... reported by Tribble Ad Agency. Bloomberg 3/9/09 reports commercial payments 60 days late or more rose 3.75% in the Detroit area ( the national average is 1.1%). The vacancy rate is forecast to rise to 29.2% , up from 22% in 2008. And let us not forget Flint, Lansing, Saginaw are in similar straits. The state unemployment rate is listed at 11.6% in Jan and climbing and not including business owners and sales personnel that do not qualify for these benefits. Let us not discount the (12%) 1 in 8 persons in the state is receiving food stamps 33% are regularly visiting food pantries. a cap and trade tax that will increase utility costs at least 20% , and a near bankrupt state government that is turning over every stone to pilfer more tax payer money ... such as Introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (D) on February 17, 2009, to allow school districts to use "sinking fund" taxes for a wider variety of purposes, see HB 4313, which will cost property owners $3.6 to $7.2 billion according to Michigan Votes. The population in Michigan is down to almost 2000 levels losing another 0.5% last year and if the trend continues MI loses two seats in the house. I calculate the debt for every man, woman, child to be $47,000 so far and climbing (not including interest). But it won't matter much if the Bond Bubble collapses.

And should I go on House Resolution 875, or the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., in February. DeLauro's husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto – the world's leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seed. hmmm... This legislation promising to protect my food supply and essentially burdens the small farmer with more costly regulations and paperwork. It essentially makes you a criminal if you sell or buy organic food... and more ... with requirements for RFID chips for farm animals... voluntary for families and small farms.. yea right ... just like the seat belt law.
On July 31, 2008, Congress passed Chairman Waxman's Lead Free Toys Act (H.R. 3473) as part of H.R. 4040, a bill to reform the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This law will require immediate reductions in the amount of lead in children's products and contains the world's strongest restrictions on lead in children's products. Now I can not even have a garage sale or make darn near anything and sell it without having to spend money to have it tested and certified safe.

They just never stop and are coming at us and are preventing good honest people from making a living. From every angle and every law we are being regulated by a communitarian administrative government.

I would suggest we cannot afford any legislation that puts more burden on my children and grandchildren ...
Over 200 years ago, the father of our Constitution, James Madison wrote: "To preserve the Republic, it is in the hands of the people. We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments"
Government is the problem and I am tired of being regulated... what happened to individual responsibility? I am not afraid to be Free are You?

HUCKABEE: Put conservatism into practice

Enough already of the hand-wringing and night sweats about the demise of the conservative movement!

Conservatives aren't challenged because of the basic principles that define us, but by the failure of the principles being translated into policy and practice.

Ghandi once said, "If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today."

I would be so brazen to say that if conservatives would really live according to the principles of classic conservatism, all of America would be conservative today.

The crisis is not one over the precepts, but the practice. It's not that we've failed in our doctrine, but our "doing."

Conservatives believe that the best government is the most local government possible and that the 10th Amendment means something and should be followed. Yet, the supposedly conservative Republican Party has been a drum major for the expanded role of the federal government.

Our founders feared a highly centralized and endowed federal government, instead preferring a system of strong and virtually independent states so that no one person, party, or power broker would exercise a great deal of control.

The inherent danger of allowing too much power in the hands of the few was the heart of the major dispute between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson won, believing that the dispersing of power among the states would by design keep the federal government from becoming too consuming and powerful in its approach to governing. The genius of the 10th Amendment, as is true of all of the Bill of Rights, was that it deliberately limited what the government could do - not what the individual could do.

The 10th Amendment defines the limits of the federal government in 28 words: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
