FairTax Friday | Reflections on Tuesday's FairTax hearing & House floor speech

"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." - Margaret Thatcher

Feature Article: Reflections on the Hearing

Because of your incredible efforts and continued pressure, the FairTax legislation was the subject of a July 26 hearing before the House Committee on Ways and Means.  Did you know that over 50,000 petitions and communications were sent to individual members of the House and the Committee? Thank You!

Congratulations to everyone involved in supporting FairTax for once again demonstrating how everyday citizens can and are making a difference! If you missed the hearing you can watch a video replay here.  Many of you have asked how the FairTax panel was selected. The selection of witnesses is at the sole discretion of the Members of the Ways & Means Committee.

We want to express our appreciation to Congressman Camp for placing the FairTax on the committee's hearing agenda, to Governor Huckabee for taking time from his busy schedule to fly to Washington and testify in support of the FairTax and to Congressman Rob Woodall for his sponsorship and continued dedication in seeing the FairTax become the law of the land. If you have not seen the Congressman's floor speech to the U.S. House of Representatives, as the hearing was taking place, all we can say is, "Wow!"  Finally, we would be remiss if we didn't say a special thanks to Dr. Laurence J. Kotlikoff and Dr. David G. Tuerck for their efforts in testifying in support of the FairTax.

With the hearing now behind us, our work continues. We will continue educating members of the Ways and Means committee by preparing and submitting follow-up testimony with a goal towards:

- Correcting misinformation

- Clarifying areas of confusion

- Answering administrative detail

We will be posting this information at www.fairtax.org/hearing and encourage you to utilize it in your continued campaign to individually educate members of the U.S. House and Senate, Governors and other elected officials. Tax reform is now a top Congressional priority. How they proceed depends on you!

Grassroots Spotlight: Hearing Activists

Congressman Rob Woodall speaking from the Ways and Means committee room: "The members of congress who serve on this committee - we need them to understand the FairTax and be excited about the FairTax."

Not only was the July 26 FairTax hearing successful in educating members of the Committee on Ways and Means, it also created such excitement from Americans that the entire committee website was unavailable Tuesday morning! So if you missed the hearing, you can watch a reply here.

Our efforts are certainly not at an end with the first dedicated FairTax hearing. We have only started to ignite the wave of support that will force members of an unwilling Congress to accept the transformation of the FairTax over the failing status quo.

But that wave is moving faster than before as thousands more Americans agree they'd rather keep their paychecks instead of the IRS. Constituents are forcing Congressional offices to address the FairTax issue and this campaign season's cameras bring even more attention to our cause.

We are confident of future success because we know what has driven our movement to this point.

As Congressman Woodall said, "I just want you to know I give you all credit for making this happen. This has been a grassroots movement from the start... Thanks for all that you do!"

Is someone your FairTax inspiration? Email media@fairtax.org to nominate them for the spotlight!

FairTax In the News

A fair solution to the budget crisisBoston Globe

Negotiations over the federal debt limit are stalled over whether to provide for spending cuts alone or to combine spending cuts with revenue increases. Just as Democrats think that fairness requires revenue increases, Republicans think they must stand fast against such increases in order to protect the economy from further decline. But there is a way to cut spending and increase revenues while stimulating the economy - by junking the entire federal tax code and putting a consumption tax in its place...

Fundamental tax reform seems to be temporarily off the table because of the debt ceiling crisis. But, in fact, one form of fundamental tax reform presents itself as the solution to that crisis. The FairTax commands broad grassroots support and offers the political cover that the president and Congress need in order to come to agreement. The idea is sitting there, just waiting for someone to see the obvious and take credit for it.

- David G. Tuerck

Woodall Credits Public With Helping Get FairTax Into HearingsDacula Patch

U.S, Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) credited the American people with ensuring the FairTax is considered as a viable option for tax reform. The legislation was included during Tuesday's hearings by the Ways and Means Committee on the economic impact of the consumption-based tax models. The FairTax legislation, H.R. 25, now has 62 co-sponsors.

"Today's hearing is a giant step forward not only for the FairTax, but for the legislative process," Woodall said in a press release. "The American people are calling for tax reform and the leaders in Washington are responding. By holding hearings and by learning as much as we can about how to move this nation forward in the right fiscal direction, I am certain that the FairTax will rise to the top as the most sensible tax reform solution."

The Shadow Agenda - Grinding America down. Only Constitutional conduct and Fairtax can save us now~

It is politically correct to not question where we are seemingly headed, but to accept the Government leadership as pristine. How many of the tin foil conspiracies have turned out true?  Too many. Is there an agenda in DC for the New World Order?

Did President Bush's first bailout come about to cover up the fact that the USA was the only Nation to not open their National Bank books to remain in the International Banking Community? Google, BASEL IV for this truth.

Has the agenda since that day been to fast track the NWO take over? What can stop this? Returning to constitutional conduct making the fifty State Sovereignty in all not enumerated to the federal government as their right to power, including values, and enacting the Fairtax to end the redistribution of United States Industry.

Hope is still alive, if we who are silent, stand up immediately.  This is that last election of a free people if we do not put the light on this Shadow Government and end it by returning to the Constitution and Sovereignty of 50 Nations in Union, not one with 50 provinces in obedience. Change the tax structure to take all the federal taxes hidden in domestic products and equally harm imports with domestic product with the federal taxation by enacting Fairtax. By doing the latter you lower the former % needed by 90%, but you will not afford the latter without the former funding the transition back to the Constitution with respect to those already invested in the current Federal Entitlements, which can be divested using the Ryan Plan method into privately owned, voluntary or State Mandated, HSA/IRAs to replace all federal entitlements. These HSA/IRAs can be locally invested too. It is a win win, as it honors all, including those yet to be born.

Constitutional conduct and Fairtax please~

Ways & Means Hearing on Tax Reform and Consumption-Based Tax Systems Submission

Please place the following blogg into the Record of the Hearing on Tax Reform and Consumption-Based Tax Systems Submission 7/26/2011:

In reading the below, keep in mind that 22% of the price of domestic products is hidden Federal taxes. Even a loaf of bread contains these embedded taxes, if not imported. In a closed border, it would not matter to keep our current tax structure, as the Nationalist GOP wants such as leadership of group Freedomworks in a plan they call flat tax, but we have freetrade which handicaps American Industry. Thus we need an open border tax structure as explained below.

Where did we go wrong:

Before W.W.II this Nation was a closed market to imports. The framers of our current tax structure did so under the Americans consuming only domestic manufacturing, I imagine using the production tax system as a convenience since the bookwork was already in place and under management control. Then we opened our trade to Japan, making for free trade. This gave the American consumer a boost to their cashflow, making for more spending in other areas and those we lost a few jobs, the increased cashflow produced many more jobs.

President Reagan then introduced free trade to the world and opened our border to duty free import. No thought was given to the production tax structure in place and the new surge of cheap goods made for even greater prosperity to the American consumer, while again eliminating some jobs, but at the same time we had new technology introducing new avenues of employment, thus the excise production tax on domestic production had minimal effect. During the period after, companies were being cannibalized for short term profit as their competition from imports was cutting into the profit margin and causing little advantage to stay in business. These companies were closed, jobs being eliminated, as the scavenger Companies bought them up and sold them for parts or took the parts overseas to open up manufacturing to import and feed the open accounts of buyers of the closed companies products, in a duty free, production tax free advantage and at a high markup profit.

The slow demise of manufacturing in America has grown and the need of social programs from the Federal Government to prop up the American dream continued to grow, expanding deficit spending and hidden inflation. This perpetuated the domestic excise production tax, furthering the handicap of American manufacturing. The need for additional income into Families also grew, demanding more then two spouses could produce to keep up with the standard of living and regulations and license fees, insurance costs, to a point where a majority of Americans are now in a fiscal struggle living paycheck to paycheck, if working. Jobs have become hard to find, many being entry level service jobs without any ability to advance or receive adequate wage. Jobs are at a premium, even with a low reported unemployment level, which does not report and hides many who have slipped from the employment rolls due to years of job seeking frustration, especially in the urban and rural areas.

Now we find ourselves being tempted into becoming what we fought for years with our own blood to push back, fascism, Communism and the Tyranny of Government, with the promise of fiscal security. The American Dream is on life support in need of a true free market, one of which fair trade exists. The cost advantage of foreign imports over domestic by continuing with a production tax is about 22%, the amount of hidden tax in domestic goods.

Time is of essence, that this very hour, this Nation is about to fall. The World Government proponents are about to make their final push for world dominance through one world currency.(see BASEL IV) The Marxist of the world have moved into leadership positions in coalition with the One World Shadow known as RHINOs, the pawns of the One World Government advocates. The old media has joined or is owned by both powers and is a major instrument of this Coalition and is making for a unique threat to the U.S. Constitution.

The only way to prevent the above from fulfilling their mission to dominate this Nation and the World is to offer change to the American worker and Family a grand demand for their employment, jobs, jobs, jobs. Only then will the chain of despair be broken. The Conservative Movement must center all it's will on fixing the failing tax and trade structure of this Nation. We must lay down the plank of the Fair Tax Plan WWW.fairtax.org to the Democrat and Republican Grassroots and educate them across into a Party totally centered on the character and values of the Founding Fathers, presiding under the Constitution as written through the demand on the Judiciary to be of good behavior as instructed in the Constitution and defined by Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist #78 Document. http://www.constitution.org/fed/federa78.htm

The Fair Tax is the Salvation of the United States of America and it's Constitution of liberty and Freedom of We the People. Make it so.

Operation FairTax — It is time for FairTax to lead

Let us say you work for a bread factory bakery. Your Boss pays the employees and his own federal taxes, like payroll & corporate Tax, to the federal government. To meet this current tax structure's demand, business have to put the tax cost ...into the price of a product, 22% on average.

So lets say, when you get out of work, you go around the corner and use your whole paycheck to buy that much bread. You are now paying all those hidden federal taxes, again.

Learn what Fairtax does and how taking the 22% out of the price of Made in the USA, we will gain back industrial jobs, as well as grosspay checks.

Here is an letter from Michigan Fairtax Association Roger Buchultz on VAT Vs. Fairtax. Vs. flat tax:

Flat Tax Vs VAT Tax Vs FairTax ~ MiFairTax President Roger Buchholtz

I have a brief "seminar" for you below in which three tax proposals are very briefly compared.

First, let's address the Flat Income Tax. A simple and flat income tax will remain neither for very long. It will just allow all the tax favors to be bought and sold all over again, which will perpetuate today's corruption of our representative form of government to the point that our representatives too often represent special interests rather than their constituents. In addition, the Flat Income Tax will only slightly reduce compliance and efficiency costs (as all records must be maintained and returns filed) and it will continue the practice of hiding taxes in the prices of the goods and services that citizens buy. This practice of imbedding much of our tax burden (22% of the price of all goods and services is taxes imbedded in the retail price) places American labor and business at a ~20% competitive disadvantage with foreign labor and businesses. In essence, a Flat Income Tax will have no long term benefits and will delay true tax reform for a generation.

I am delighted to hear that you would support a consumption tax if it replaced the income tax. Both a VAT and the FairTax are consumption taxes. How about replacing the income tax, Social Security & Medicare taxes, and death and gift taxes with a consumption tax? There is currently a proposal before Congress with almost 70 cosponsors, called the FairTax (HR 25) that does just that.

Actually, a VAT and the FairTax have much in common, but the differences are critical.

Both tax final consumption only once.

They have the exact same tax base, if they both have no exemptions.

Business to business purchases are not taxed.

The full amount of the tax is paid by the consumer.

Both improve U.S. international competitiveness as neither of them tax exports and are border-adjustable.

How are they different?

The FairTax is a replacement for the federal personal income/payroll tax and corporate tax system. The VAT is proposed as a source of new revenue on top of the individual income/payroll taxes and corporate taxes.

The FairTax has a "prebate" so that no individual pays taxes on their personal consumption up to the poverty. This eliminates the regressive nature of a consumption tax.

The FairTax collects the tax at the retail level, which is simple to understand and comply with. Only sellers of goods or services for final consumption (retail businesses) file monthly tax returns. This would reduce tax filers and compliance costs by 85 to 90%.

The VAT, on the other hand, is collected from all businesses at every stage in the production process. Each business has to keep track of what taxes they paid on their purchase of inputs and subtract it from the tax they owe. This is called a credit-invoice system. It is complex record keeping and especially difficult for small businesses who don't have in-house tax experts.

The FairTax is transparent, the amount of the FairTax being clearly stated on the retail receipt. VAT retail receipts may state the rate of tax, but they generally do not state the actual amount of taxes paid. The visibility of the FairTax provides the natural restraint on the size and reach of government intended by our Founding Fathers.

A VAT is regressive. The European countries solve that by creating all kinds of exemptions in attempts to make necessities tax free. This opens the door for more and more exemptions and vendors start gaming the system to qualify for the exemptions. This encourages the buying and selling of tax favors, similar to today's corrupting trade in tax favors occurring in the U.S. under our income tax system. This undercuts our representative form of government as our elected officials too often represent special interests rather than their constituents.

This combination of the FairTax Prebate (monthly payment to every legal household which offsets taxes paid on spending up to the poverty level, similar to today's personal exemption on our income tax return) and taxing ALL consumption at the same rate creates a consumption tax that is transparent, and much simpler and much less costly to comply with. That is the genius of the Prebate.

$23 million in research on the FairTax and its economic and social impact can be viewed at www.fairtax.org. Feel free to contact me with any questions or for additional information.

Congressman WOODALL: 'FairTax means jobs' - Washington Times #tcot #sgp #tpp #p2 #gop #dems @michigandems #migop

www.washingtontimes.com
I've been in Congress for a little more than six months now, and not a single day has gone by without a call for more jobs, more innovation and faster economic recovery. We wonder why foreign investment continues to stay overseas and our own American companies are flocking to foreign shores as fast..

The Future is Socialists get their way~ Fwd: Put me in charge

Put me in charge.

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Visa cards; no cash for
Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans. If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and
piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get
tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your
"home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be
inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your
own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or
you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of
trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We
will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the "common good."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of
the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before
you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem,"
consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for
doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least
attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is
correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will
voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't
welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
Now, if you have the guts - PASS IT ON.

A question one must ask, do you prefer the Judeo Christian value system or the old school of an eye for an eye, as your Government?

A question one must ask, do you prefer the Judeo Christian value system or the old school of an eye for an eye, as your Government? Islam Shariah Law is an extension of the Torah with woman's rights subjected.

The Constitution gives the majority of Law to the common Man to measure. The tool of precedence has consumed beyond it's legal reach authority over common law therefore in character, making our Laws amoral at best, Thus a vacuum draw of Shariah Law.

How are we amoral? Example: Finding no fault in ending a marriage steps all over the inalienable right of children having the Family structure. 20 years ago, a Judge said the vast majority of the cases before him came from broken homes as a child. We tell all of society we must control cold medicine, while continuing to destroy the virtues. Self discipline is a lost trait in society by the nature of the Government served, not served by.

Fairtax and Constitutional conduct will defend us from Shariah Law infiltration and from the Governance by World Leaders being attempted on fast track of planning. Google and Study BASEL IV and you will see clearly. Fairtax will fix our fiscal crisis, and Constitutional conduct will re-establish State Sovereignty in values and federal spending.

 >Splash, Splash, Splash!!! It goes in but it don't register. Our tax Structure has shipped out our Industry & we are at the end of the 30 year Rope, hung there when President Reagan gave us 'Free trade' Policy. Closed border tax structure = IRS Code!!! * Fairtax = Individual liberty with equity in trade competition with imports, giving USA Industry a 22% boost, moving up GDP growth 10 to 20% per year, after year, after year.... #MEA becomes Recall of #MiGov Snyder. @MichiganDems threaten themselves as #migop Patriots may see opportunity under closed election.

Michigan, why is there a law on the books that permits a minority of the majority in an election victory for Governor, but in the other two State wide offices, it is mandatory to send to the Electoral College?  May I add the Governor is but an administrator and the legislator is now on beam, when it comes to recalling. What are they giving us, the good ole boy blues or some real leadership for we Michiganders. The best thing you can do right now for our State is to entertain DC to be Constitutional and Pass the Fairtax.  Imagine the jobs in Michigan if we were to pass the State MIFairtax as Well.

Democrats are using the MEA to recall Governor Snyder. This is considered an abuse of power within the Federal Unions, under the Hatch Act.  Not knowing Micigan's version, without a challenge, why does our State control of State employee unions have such authority as this MEA Action?

As to the recall by the Democrats, they should kknow that if they wish to persue this, we will find the Conservatives joining in down the road to provide another election, closed this time. Bring it on, dare ya.

'Why the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact should die' WSJ

Founders established electoral with more then two Political Parties in mind & to curb largess States(Cities) from dominating Presidential Elections, 1/3 of Federal Government. There is a push amongst the States by those who think Nationalizing the Federal Government is a good idea and are supporting a measure to make the Presidential Election by popular vote, not the current Electoral Constitutional Law.
The following link speaks to the Massachusetts attempt to make that State one of a future coalition of such States, bypassing the Constitution. We did the same thing with the U.S. Senate and gave it the popular vote.  Now, instead of the Senator being loyal to the Sovereignty of his State Legislatures desire,Senators are now loyal to the Lobbyists with the people molded vote being that of the Media's.
I say: Repeal the 17th Amendment and put the loyalty of the U. S. Senate back to the State Governments and Leave our current Electoral College Laws as are. Look at the history of our Constitution and then think, liberty. We are better served by each County holding a Caucus before we go to the national Bake sale.

    • R. George Dunn How many months in advance must one be a GOP member to vote primary, was recommended? Hope it is at least 6 months.

    • Greg Merle This is a good thing.
    • Deborah DeBacker It wont be any different than an open primary. The Dems have no one to vote for so they will take a Republican ballot.

    • R. George Dunn Now we need the Michigan Governor primary to be sent to Convention if less then 50% majority popular vote. Don't forget. Interesting thought. If a presidential candidate does not get 50% of the vote in a Congressional District, how about going to County caucus to declare winner, each being their own entity.
    • Deborah DeBacker I remember before 2000, there were no winner take all. Delegates were apportioned according to the percentage of votes. National conventions meant something and all candidates came here.

    • R. George Dunn To each District their own, or to each County Caucus their own?
    • R. George Dunn Maybe we can do the popular vote in Primary by a compromise of~ In all primary vote, Party member must be member as long as office voting for., w/ exception of the first 6 years for equity.

    • Deborah DeBacker Too late the elite have spoken.

    • R. George Dunn Not today, today we have new Media. No more play book, al new, called truth. Brainstorming is happenning in cyber, freely. It is only a recommendation the Full Committee. We still can fine tune it. Cronnyism is not an excuse any more...

Texas A&M University Contest winner(This may be the #1 email of the year) "Political Correctness is~

If you haven't seen this definition before, it is worth reading!......................

There are fewer things more truthful than the following.............

An annual contest is held each year at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was: "Political Correctness."

The winner and a great definition by a student who wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end."
