Fwd: A video milestone and what's next | FairTax Friday

"The present tax codes… inhibit the mobility and formation of capital, add complexities and inequities which undermine the morale of the taxpayer." - John F. Kennedy

A Video Milestone And What's Next

The Income Tax is Broken - Video

Dear FairTax Supporters,

WE DID IT! Thanks to all of your tremendous efforts, we met our initial goal of reaching 50,000 viewers with FairTax: Fire Up Our Economic Engine! As of today, the video is surpassing 51,000 viewers on YouTube. Great work, team!

This is fantastic news, and a milestone for which we should all be proud. This just goes to show that, working as a team, we can accomplish GREAT things. Now on to 100,000 viewings. Do you believe we can accomplish that new goal over the next 10 days? I am confident we can.

Since launching the video, we've signed-up 1,200+ new FairTax supporters. To those new members we say welcome to the FairTax team!

Did you know we have a strategic imperative of 3,000 new supporters in all 435 congressional districts? We know that in Congressional districts with a strong challenger that lost, in most cases they lost by less than 3,000 votes. Imagine what could happen in all 435 districts if we had a strong FairTax sponsor or candidate and 3,000 new FairTax activists. That's a game changer, ladies and gentlemen.

We need you to continue engaging your friends, family and colleagues to view, "like" and "share" our video. We also need more and more Americans to donate critically needed funds to the FairTax campaign. The This election cycle, super pacs and the economy have had a significant impact on most non-profits' ability to attract major donor fundingraising. We are no different. Meanwhile, the anti-FairTax opposition campaign intensifies. We need more Americans to hear the FairTax message, donate and take action.

On August 22, Forbes.com posted an article critical of the FairTax. As usual you jumped in to rebut the author and educate the naysayers.  Interestingly our number of new supporters jumped significantly that day – most likely stimulated by the article and your impressive response. This is the kind of on-line discussion action we need over and over again! If you haven't seen the article, please click here to read it and take part in the conversation.

Bob Martin of Wisconsin placed a great op ed piece in his Madison area newspaper. Bob's piece stimulated a great discussion and provided yet another opportunity to educate the public about the merits of FairTax. Thank you, Bob, for your wonderful, proactive efforts in spreading the FairTax message!

Each of you has the opportunity to have strong FairTax voice. Please visit our Get Involved page for tools and resources to make your voice be heard.

We hope you will continue to help us find new and innovative ways to share the FairTax message. Let us know how your spreading the good news and video and don't forget to send us pictures.

If you've already shared the video, share it again, this time with a quick comment about how it has been seen by over 50,000 viewers on YouTube. Search on-line for FairTax: Fire Up Our Economic Engine and add your positive comments to stories, blogs and articles on the video and the FairTax. Make sure you share why you support the FairTax and direct readers to www.FairTax.org for the additional information.

As we all know, this is a turbo charged election season. We must work extra hard to be heard through all the political noise. It can be done, it must be done! And with your continued hard work and dedication, it will be done.

The FairTax in the News

Congress must pass Fair Tax Act to create more jobsHTRNews.com

Congress could do one simple thing to end the current recession. It could pass the Fair Tax Act.

About 1.7 million Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 are unemployed. If they were all included in the unemployment numbers, the unemployment rate for that age group would be 16.8 percent. It's the highest for them since World War II. A majority of recent high school and college graduates, 56 and 58 percent respectively, feel that they will not be better off than their parents. A Pew Research Center survey found that a quarter of 18 to 34 year olds have moved back in with their parents to save money. I could give you more but you get the point…

Americans for Fair Taxation has produced a video telling the story and giving the solution. You can view it online at www.fairtax.org.

Pass it on to everyone you know and just maybe we can get Congress to listen.

Taxation is not a Democrat or Republican issue — it's an AMERICAN issue. Young and old must unite to send the message to Washington.

To All My Valued Employees,

There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job.

What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country. Of course, as your employer, I am forbidden to tell you whom to vote for - it is against the law to discriminate based on political affiliation, race, creed, religion, etc.

Please vote for who you think will serve your interests the best. However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interest. First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story.

This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear.  Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside.  You saw my big home at last year's Christmas party. I'm sure all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life. However, what you don't see is the back story.

I started this company 12 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living space was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes.  Instead of hitting Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the Goodwill store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's.

My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business --- with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9 am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5 pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself.  I unfortunately do not have the freedom.  I eat, ****, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to me like a 1 day old baby.

You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... You never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made. Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail out all the people who didn't.

The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.  Yes, business ownership has its benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds. Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what?   I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes.  You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check?

Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country. The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy. Here is what many of you don't understand .. to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what?   Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart?   Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the mud of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine.

Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep. So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers.   You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem anymore. Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire.

You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

While tax cuts to 95% of America sounds great on paper, don't forget the back story: If there is no job, there is no income to tax. A tax cut on zero dollars is zero. So, when you make decision to vote, ask yourself, who understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn't?  Whose policies will endanger your job? Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of saving your job. While the media wants to tell you "It's the economy Stupid" I'm telling you it isn't.

If you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the Constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me in the South Caribbean sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about.

Signed, Your boss,
Michael A. Crowley, PE

The Debt ~Pete Hoekstra #Migov #migop #rightmi #Teaparty #TeapartyMi #sgp #tcot #mitcot #UAW

Hoekstra for United States Senate

This week we are traveling the state talking about an issue that matters to Michigan families, workers and the next generation: the debt. There is a stark contrast between my work on the House Budget Committee and Senator Stabenow's failed record on the Senate Budget Committee.

You can follow my Solutions Express Tour here: HoekstraForSenate.com/Solutions-Tour.

Senator Stabenow has failed American families, seniors and the next generation with her record as a member of the Senate Budget Committee. She has done nothing but follow Harry Reid's lead, resulting in incomprehensible debt and the country going without a budget for more than 1,200 days. I passed several balanced budgets in 1990's and they led to historic economic growth.

The national debt has increased by more than $6 trillion since Debbie began serving on the Senate Budget Committee and has already risen by another trillion dollars this fiscal year. As a member of the House Budget Committee, I helped balance the budget for the first time in 30 years and did so for four consecutive years.

The debt is a serious issue facing the country and the contrasts before Michigan voters could not be clearer. I know it's taxpayer's hard-earned money the government spends, and Congress has a moral responsibility to balance the budget for the next generation. Sen. Stabenow believes it's the government's money, it's limitless and there are no economic consequences for trillion dollar deficits.

I have the record of making the tough decisions to get the job done for Michigan families and workers.

Help spread the word on Facebook and look for tour updates each day: HoekstraForSenate.com/Solutions-Tour

Michigan being told free medicaid thru 2018 via Affordable Care Act, Obamacare

Today in the radio news, Michigan was told to not resist the medicaid mandate under Obamacare, as it will be paid for 100% by the federal government until 2018. Then we can choose to waver out of it. My immediate thought was, "and who is going to pay for it?"

What will be the result of further socialism of the healthcare field with one more communist step? At the very least it should be a competitive plan such as an Health savings account, but it is unconstitutional for the federal government to spend on this. It is a State issue.

Please join me in voting for Pete Hoekstra tomorrow. Pete will be a great senator for Michigan.

Message from Pete:

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Friends,

I am writing to you today to ask for your vote on August 7 and November 6.

This election will be about the fundamental question of the proper role of government. We will decide whether to continue down the same path of putting faith in government or a better direction of putting our faith back in the American people.

As your next Senator, my focused objective will be to pass solutions based on the free-market principles that made this nation great. The Washington-centered policies of Barack Obama and Debbie Stabenow have failed American job creators, workers and taxpayers.

We can do better.

I come from the private sector. I had a successful career as a vice president at Herman Miller, a Fortune 500 company. I beat an out-of-touch 26-year incumbent when I first ran for office. I vowed I would never be corrupted by Washington and contract Potomac Fever. To do that, I slept on my office couch and traveled back home every weekend. By keeping to my roots and conservative principles, I remained an outsider that fought from the inside.

My record is clear: I helped write the Contract with America that led to the Republican Revolution. I was asked to lead an investigation into a Teamsters election that overturned a corrupt election. When I served on the House Budget Committee, we passed four straight surpluses by making the necessary tough decision. And after the attacks of 9/11, the Speaker of the House asked me to Chair the House Intelligence Committee to reform our intelligence system, and we got the job done.

I have been named a "Superhero of the Taxpayer" by the Citizens Against Government Waste and a "Guardian of Small Business" by the National Federation of Independent Business. I am 100 percent pro-life and have straight A's from the National Rifle Association.

In 2012, we have an opportunity to finally retire incumbent Senator Debbie Stabenow, who has been in elected office since 1975. It will be a challenge with her war chest and the political machine she has created over the past four decades. But, the time is now.

With Michigan native Mitt Romney as our presidential nominee and myself as the Senate nominee, we can turn this blue state red. Michigan can deliver the White House and the Senate and finally pass pro-growth solutions that get Michigan families working again.

I humbly ask for your vote on August 7 and November 6.

Sincerely,

Pete Hoekstra
Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate
