Fwd: Michigan Part Time Legislature Effort

To the Editor:
When Michigan was born as a State and its Constitution drafted, our Founders set our legislators’ schedule to serve only as a part-time legislature. Not until 1963, by amendment to our state Constitution, did Michigan come to have a full-time legislature.
Michigan is one of only FOUR states with a full-time legislature, joining New York, California, and Pennsylvania in this distinction. The other 46 states enjoy some form of part-time legislature.
Our legislators cannot solve our economic problems through economic manipulation at the expense of precious tax dollars; or by creating more onerous laws that result in more regulations that often burden our people and our businesses, and discourage outside investors from considering our state.
For real change to happen in Michigan, we need to let commerce work. We need competitively priced energy, low taxes, and less uncertainty in the management of our industries. That in turn will create employment opportunity in Michigan.
Consider what Michigan might look like to potential investors as a low regulation, industry friendly state. Ask yourself what Michigan would look like to families as they see their children securing careers in our state while being able to keep generational families intact.
Today, our legislators serve for only 120 days, but receive over $80,000 in salary. In fact, our legislators pay continued to increase right through the recent recession. Under a new plan developed by the non-partisan Committee To Restore Michigan’s Part-Time Legislature, legislators’ salaries would be capped at $35,000. But the money we would save by cutting legislative salaries would be dwarfed by the potential money realized by the creation of fewer new laws that do little more than hinder job growth.
We need to collect 400,000 signatures in 90 days to put a proposal for a Part-time Legislature on the ballot for the general election, which takes place on Tuesday, November 4.
We must work together to accomplish this, because our legislators refuse to do it for us.
The Committee To Restore Michigan’s Part-time Legislature welcomes you to learn more about their mission. Visit and view a sample petition.
Together, we can take the word “career” out of Michigan’s politics and replace “Pure Michigan” with “Pure Public Service.”
To speak to someone locally about this issue, or if you would like to sign a petition or volunteer to circulate petitions, please contact Tab Faber at 989-435-8851; or Kelly Miller at 989-578-2820.

Here are some pointers to avoid an invalid petition:

Please study the petition instructions carefully and encourage potential circulators to do the same.  We must create an army of circulators getting ten valid signatures at a time to be successful.
This is a citizen driven effort.

We must do this together!

Debt Clock - Debt is Part of the Plan (of elitists in DC) #migop #toct #sgp #dems #gop

Family & Friends,

We exceeded 100% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP is the total amount of goods and services produced on our country in a year) in debt a couple months ago.  This means, if we consumed nothing for a year and gave all our production for one year to our debtors we would not have enough to pay our debt.

Take a look at the debt clock at the website below as it is very interesting and pretty alarming.

However, we must conclude that this in intentional, because there is no other logical explanation.  The Progressive movement has a plan to bring America to it's knees so that they can then install their "socialist utopia".  Unsustainable public debt is part of the plan.

Paul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 - June 12, 1972) was an American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He is often noted for his book Rules for Radicals.  He laid out 8 levels of control that must be obtained before they are able to create a socialist/communist state. The first is the most important.

  1) Healthcare "Control healthcare and you control the people”

  2) Poverty “Increase the Poverty level as high as possible."   Poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

  3) Debt “Increase the national debt to an unsustainable level." That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

  4) Gun Control “Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government." That way you are able to create a police state - total local control.

  5) Welfare “Take control of every aspect of their lives" (Food, Livestock, Housing, and Income)

  6) Education “Take control of what people read and listen to take control of what children learn in school.”

  7) Religion “Remove faith in God from the Government and school.”

  8) Class Warfare “Divide the people into the wealthy against the poor. Racially divide." This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to Tax the wealthy with full support of the voting poor.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Brian Calley for Michigan Part-time Legislature #MIGOP #Michigan

"The best government is that which governs least."

Calley for Michigan

Dear Fellow Conservatives,

In 1837, Henry David Thoreau wrote, "The best government is that which governs least." Those words have been one of the guiding philosophies behind our push to eliminate over 1500 rules and regulations since 2011.  It is also one of the reasons that I, along with my colleagues Tom McMillin, Dave Agema and Justin Amash, introduced a constitutional amendment in 2009 to give Michigan a Part-time Legislature.

While there are many arguments that favor the institution of this style of government, there is one that stands out above all else: Part-time legislative systems produce fewer laws each year than full-time systems.  That's a win for the people in my book.

Over 40 states have Part-time Legislatures.  The People's business still gets done, constituent needs are still met and laws still get passed (albeit a lot less of them).  As Article 1, Section 1 of the Michigan Constitution says: “All political power is inherent in the people. Government is instituted for their equal benefit, security and protection.”  A limited scope of government best ensures that this will remain true.

This is why I intend to vote for a Part Time Legislature if it makes it on the ballot this year.

Michigan: Bill to Repeal State Ban on Short-Barreled Rifles and Shotguns Sent to Governor

Today, the Michigan Senate concurred with the House changes to Senate Bill 610 by a 36-2 vote.  This bill will now be sent to Governor Rick Snyder (R) for his expected signature.  SB 610, sponsored by state Senator Michael Green (R-31), will repeal Michigan’s ban on the private ownership of short-barreled rifles and shotguns.  Short-barreled rifles and shotguns are already strictly regulated under the National Firearms Act, requiring their buyers to undergo a background check, pay a $200 federal tax and register these firearms with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

SB 610, which passed in the Michigan House of Representatives by a 103-6 vote last week, would conform Michigan law to federal law and align Michigan with a large majority of states that already allow their residents to possess these firearms.  This legislation is awaiting enrollment and presentation to Governor Snyder, where his signature would make it law.  Please politely contact Governor Snyder and respectfully urge him to sign this important reform for law-abiding gun owners into law.  Governor Snyder can be reached by telephone at (517) 373-3400 and online here.

Shocking Details From Inside Planned Parenthood

Obama's MyRA Scam: Your Savings Pays for US Debt

Experts Predict Imminent Collapse of US Dollar

FREE BOOK: Rescue Your Money from US Debt Disaster

The Criterion newspaper printed a shocking interview with former Planned Parenthood nurse Marianne Anderson, who spent two years in Indiana’s largest abortion facility. She says what she saw made her sick to her stomach. A doctor who made callous comments about dismembered fetuses, and snapped at patients who cried. A teenager pressured by her mother to get an abortion she didn’t want. A young Korean girl brought in by a man whom she claimed beat her and held her captive. But nobody called the police. Constant pressure to bring in money by performing more abortions, and reprimands if she asked a patient if she was sure that’s what she wanted. Ms Anderson thought she’d be providing safe health services to women. Instead, she called it, quote, “a money-grubbing, evil, very sad, sad place to work.” Planned Parenthood receives about 360 million of our tax dollars a year. By law, none of it is supposed to go to fund abortions. But don’t question that, or they might accuse you of waging a war on women.

    Eternal Life...

The group American Atheists sued back in 2011 to block the display of what’s called the World Trade Center Cross, formed when 2 beams of metal girding melted into what appeared to be a cross. It was discovered by rescue workers who found solace in the presence of the cross. Many of the workers-- Christian, Jewish, and others --were encouraged and given hope as they encountered the sight of the beams. But not everyone was encouraged. The American Atheists have sued to prohibit the display of the beams in the museum which tells the story of the World Trade Center and the selfless heroes who initially risked their lives to save lives buried in the rubble, and then spent months risking their safety and health looking for remains of those murdered on 9-11. Whether the Atheist group likes it or not, that cross is part of the story and history of the rescue effort. I’m tempted to simply say to the American Atheists, “get over it, you whiny self-absorbed loons.” But that wouldn’t be polite, so let me say it another way. The Atheists claim that the mere presence of the cross caused them to suffer indigestion, depression, headaches and more physical symptoms. Seriously? It takes more faith to believe that nonsense than for them just to say that they can’t stand it for some people to have a joy that escapes their pathetic lives. The case is now pending before the US Court of Appeals. If I sued someone every time I was offended by those who treated my faith with ridicule and contempt, I’d keep a large law firm in business. I’m not in the least offended by the Jewish star of David or by the Muslim moon and stars. But I am offended that an activist group of atheists get their shorts in a wad because of what the atheists say are just 2 metal beams of scrap metal. If I were the judge, I’d tell the atheists that since they think other people are stupid to see something spiritual in those beams, then just laugh at them for seeing something in scrap metal and get a life. The good news is that the ultimate judge still would like to give even those atheists an eternal life.

    Gun Fight

In the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, Connecticut lawmakers passed strict new gun control laws. Critics argued that none of them would have prevented that atrocity, but the legislature passed them anyway. They required that all rifles labeled as assault weapons be registered with the state. Well, many gun owners cited the principle of civil disobedience against what they saw as an unconstitutional law and simply refused. There are an estimated 372,000 such rifles in, and only 50,000 applications for registration came in by the deadline. The state then said those who missed the deadline had to give up their rifles. That just reinforced the longtime fear of gun owners that the left dismissed as paranoia: that gun registration would be followed by confiscation. So now, gun owners were even more motivated to keep quiet.

This stand-off inspired one of the dumbest newspaper editorials in modern times. The Hartford Courant argued that gun owners who refuse to comply with the new law somehow be identified, arrested, charged with a felony and jailed for up to five years. Never mind all the police work that would take, just imagine the cost of jailing 322,000 gun owners for five years. It’s always amusing to me when “progressives,” who usually love the idea of civil disobedience, suddenly start screaming, “Off with their heads!” if anyone takes a principled stand against one of their own policies. Those who think there should be nationwide gun registration should look to Connecticut to see why that would never work. In a University of Chicago survey, 30 percent of the population admitted to owning guns. That’s about 95 million people. And those are just the ones who openly admitted it. As we saw in Connecticut, that’s not a reliable figure. Remember the argument from the left for immigration reform, that we can’t arrest 11 million people? Well, try arresting 95 million people. Especially when they all have guns!

The question most often presented in light of the crisis in Crimea is, “What should the President do?” Let me be so bold as to say that it’s the wrong question. The question is, “What should the President have been doing the past 5 years to avoid this Gordian knot?” Vladimir Putin didn’t just wake up one morning and impulsively order thousands of his elite airborne soldiers to drop in on Crimea to have a look-see at the port. He made a calculated gamble that the Barak Obama who fumbled the ball in Syria worse than Peyton Manning’s opening snap in the Super Bowl, and who turned his red line into a red face; who botched what once was a reliable Egyptian ally into the arms of a waiting Putin; the Barak Obama who boasted of flexibility with former President Medvedev after the election, but whose only flexibility seems to be with the truth; the President Obama who relaxed sanctions on Iran and got face-slapped by the Iranians who danced in the streets for getting what they wanted and giving nothing in return; the Obama who treats Israel like a disease and the Palestinians like a cure; The Obama who left 4 Americans to die in Benghazi and awkwardly tried to blame an amateur video; and the Obama who just announced massive cuts to the military…yes THAT Barak Obama is a person who is not respected and certainly not feared by Putin, so when Putin had the excuse of protecting his interests in a warm water seaport and storm into Crimea, he knew that there was no one to stop him. If Putin shivered, it was only because he was going shirtless on a cold Russian day—not because he feared anything Obama could do to him. And those who wonder why the Europeans are so very quiet is because Putin has his boot and their necks by way of his hand being on their thermostats. They might like the idea of Ukranian freedom, but not as much as they love the warmth of their homes fueled by Russian oil and gas. Had America been turning on its own spigots of energy, Europe could have purchased energy from us, but we have a President who doesn’t like oil…or gas…or coal…or nuclear energy…he opts for green energy, which is great except that no one has figured out how to make it profitable or affordable just yet. As for fear that America would use its military to force Putin to stand down his, we’ve worn our out in repeated deployments in Afghanistan, and are cutting back on what’s left of it so we’ll have the smallest military since pre-World War 2. You really can’t shoot when you’ve unloaded your gun. No other nation trusts us, listens to us, respects us, or fears us. We’ve become the Shakiest Gun in the West….and President Obama is playing the role of Don Knotts. Or maybe he is reprising another Don Knotts character—that of Deputy Barney Fife who kept one bullet in his shirt pocket. But then again, Barney at least had the one bullet. Putin doesn’t have a shirt, and we don’t have a bullet in the pocket of ours.

    Political Spin - Nevada Style #tcot #sgp #Migop

No matter what side of the AISLE you're on, THIS is ......FUNNY!

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Senator Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory:

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

    Harry Reid:

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

"Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

NOW THAT's how it's done, Folks! That's real POLITICAL SPIN !!!

    Mike Huckabee

I know the future of our great Republic is at stake.

I know this nation must make sure that the first fruits of our treasury must go to those serving in uniform.

I know a government that spies on its people and lies to its people is on its way to tyranny and must be changed.

I know that the 2nd amendment is the last line of defense against tyranny and must be protected.

I know that the IRS is a criminal enterprise and it is time to eliminate the IRS once and for all.

I know we spend more time telling Israel to stop building houses in the lands given to Abraham than we do telling the Iranians to stop building bombs pointed at us.

I know that life begins at conception and that a nation that kills the unborn is diminished

Finally, I know if this nation forgets God, He will have every right to forget us. A nation that remembers Him will be remembered by Him .

Fwd: Two fifths doesn't solve anything | FairTax Friday

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth.” - Buddha

    Two Fifths Doesn't Solve Anything

Two very important things happened at yesterday’s short-lived House Oversight hearing investigating the IRS targeting of nonprofits.

First, IRS former senior manager Lois Lerner again invoked the 5th Amendment. In January, her attorney said she would testify if given immunity. That same attorney now states, Lerner cannot testify because she fears for her life.

Second, graphics were apparently displayed that showed previously disclosed communications of Ms. Lerner. However, when viewed in the context of testifying under oath, well, as Fox News Greta Van Susteren said in her Facebook Post, “THESE EMAILS ARE HORRIBLE! Lois Lerner is in a heap of trouble -- and these emails (below) are really bad.”

    Lois graphic

Just who is “everyone” and “they” and is this why Ms. Lerner is so afraid to tell the American people the truth?

More importantly, why isn’t the news media falling all over themselves to get answers to these and other important questions regarding this scandal – just as they did with the Watergate and Iran-Contra scandals?

And why isn’t every member of Congress demanding the appointment of a special prosecutor just like they have done in the past?

And the most important question of all – who is standing up for and defending the taxpayers of America - the ultimate and perennial victims of the IRS?

The answer is simple - nobody.

Taxpayers, the very people who paid for Ms. Lerner’s salary, pension and most likely, her attorney; who pay the salaries, benefit plans and perks of the IRS employees who carried out this political weaponization; who underwrite the lavish lifestyles of Members of Congress appear to not be even an afterthought in this escalating political cat and mouse.

This can change. If Congress enacts the FairTax® Plan, the American people will have a tax code that is fair, simple and truly represents them – not a plan that is used by a Congress bent on partisan manipulation and retribution.

More importantly, with the FairTax, the IRS is gone – no more scapegoated federal employees to do partisan political bidding and no more cowering by taxpayers from enforcers who act like brown shirt thugs instead of public servants once sworn to uphold the rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.

No citizen – most certainly no American citizen - should ever feel the need to cower before their government or any of its representatives.  As John Adams said in 1776, “Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that Americans will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it.”

Perhaps that is why a majority of Americans want the FairTax passed, the IRS defunded and disbanded and the 16th Amendment repealed.

I am writing to ask voters of Fremont County to educate themselves about the Fair Tax Bill HR 25 that needs to be debated and voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

A fair tax as set forth in HR 25 is simply a sales tax on retail purchases at the cash register…

The states will collect the money from their own citizens and pay the fee to the federal government. This money would flow to the government each month, not April 15th, making budgeting much easier.

Everyone can and should participate in funding this great country. We pride ourselves as the Equality State, leading the way for others to follow. I call on the Wyoming Legislature in Cheyenne to get behind this effort and insist that the federal government change the tax code from 74,608 pages to the 133 pages that makeup the Fair Tax Act HR25.

The IRS would no longer exist and would not be able to disrupt innocent organizations and give their information to competing organizations the way they are currently are charged with doing…

Does the FairTax Really Abolish the IRS? In a word, YES. The FairTax, unlike a flat income tax, eliminates the IRS both symbolically and literally. For an orderly end to the income tax system, the IRS is phased out within 3 years of the effective date of the FairTax, HR25/S122. A phase out period is necessary to allow the collection and audit of the final year of income taxes and payroll taxes.
