When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.  We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. . . .But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
 
            The before mentioned words rang true 238 years ago in the Declaration of Independence.  Those words need to be heard again.  Our government at all levels has forgotten that the needs of the People outweigh the needs of the government.  According to the US Constitution, it is We the People that are supposed to be in charge of the government not the other way around.   Our government has slowly taken many of our granted rights away piece by piece.  I ask of you if our Creator granted us the Right to Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness and you are unhappy with what the government has done, then why do you do nothing about their corruption?  Rise-up; be a voice Of the People, By the People, and For the People.   I request your support in the following matter.
 
       Please, read this email forwarded from Cindy Gamrat. If we are to be successful in the prevention of these lame duck laws that out-going Representatives and senators are proposing, We need to work together.  As the Declaration of Independence states, We must set aside our differences and become one formidable presence to be reckoned with. Through the process of cooperation, We can restore the control of Government back to the People as the Constitution permits.  We must ensure that our elected government officials do what is Right by the People. For far too long, our government has been a benefit to themselves and special interest groups.  The Michigan Tea Party Pow Wow is one great event with workshops, speakers, and plenty of educational organizations in a One-Stop-Shop, and for the price, We cannot afford to miss what is offered.  Tomorrow, December 1, 2014, is the deadline for the Early Bird Special $20. After that, the price goes up to $25.  There are also rooms available at a discount price for those interested in staying at the Soaring Eagle Hotel in Mt. Pleasant, MI.  From now until December 31, 2014, We need to call and/or email our Representatives and Senators to Ensure that they Vote in a manner accordingly that will Protect the Constitution and our Rights as Citizens of Michigan and the United States of America.

I pray you had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! There are so many things to be thankful for and it is good to take time to remember God's Providence and blessing on our lives! I'd like to share with you an update and ask that you read to the end where I share a special alert about some things happening in Michigan politics that you will want to know about!Freshman_Class__1.jpg

A few weeks after the election, I attended orientation for newly elected Representatives and had the humbling opportunity to spend some time on the House Floor in the Capitol where we learned the process of casting votes and speaking on the floor. Overall, we spent a few days going over all the processes and procedures relating to every part of the job, from tax forms to researching and writing legislation. Now I have turned my attention on hiring staff that I can trust and possess the skills and experience needed to get the job done for the people in my district and the state. I also have until December 31st to put forward my first ten bills and so I am spending some time in thought, prayer, and research on what bills, if any, I will put forward in the next month. It is hard to believe that on January 1st I will be sworn in; I want to be as prepared and ready as possible to hit the ground running!

IMG_0755.JPGDirectly following orientation I had the honor to speak to conservative leaders from across the nation at the TEA Party Patriots Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. Although I have spoken to many groups around the state, this was the first time speaking since the election. I enjoyed sharing my story and giving them some tools to take home to their perspective groups and states to strengthen their impact. Their response was wonderful and I have received a number of invitations to speak in many other states around the country!

My experiences and the events over this past month have impressed upon me the precious and fragile gift of liberty paralleled with the sacrifice and cost of it's preservation. While in DC, I had the opportunity to visit the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials as well as taking a private tour of the Capitol Building with U.S. Representative Kerry Bentivolio. What incredible vision and fortitude our Founding Fathers and early leaders had and how thankful I am for them! Lately, Nehemiah 4:14 has been on my mind, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes." I am many times disappointed by the lack of leaders who will stand up and fight for the values and principles that are foundational and priceless!IMG_0767.JPG

With my thoughts thusly framed, I am now thrust into the fight for religious freedom happening right now in Michigan. Unfortunately, while Michigan families had their attention on Thanksgiving and celebrating religious freedom, the Lansing machine has continued to work behind the scenes. As you may already know, we are in a lame duck session and during the upcoming days we will see a slew of bills being passed at breakneck speed out of a legislature where many Representatives and Senators are term limited out and no longer held accountable by the voters. 

A number of these bills are neither good for Michigan nor reflect our conservative values of liberty and limited government. One bill in particular, the expansion of Elliott-Larsen to include special protection status to those in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transgender communities, will destroy our First Amendment rights and religious freedom in Michigan! This bill is being put forward by the term limited Republican leadership in the House and will give special protections for the LGBT community over and above people who do not practice that lifestyle.

As a Representative-Elect I do not have a vote during lame duck so the only voice I have is in spreading the word to let my district and our state know about what is happening in Lansing that will have an incredible impact on our children's future. This is why recently I published a press release, along with Representative-Elects Gary Glenn and Todd Courser, imploring our Representatives and Senators to publicly stand and fight against this disastrous threat against the first amendment rights and religious freedoms. I hope you will also add your voice and call your Representatives and Senators and tell them to vote no on Elliott-Larsen expansion. 

Another important project I am working on is the Michigan Grassroots PowWow. A few times a year I organize these Statewide Conferences called PowWows where over 400 of the top grassroots and conservative activists attend from all over Michigan. The next one will be on January 9th and 10th at the Soaring Eagle Resort in Mt. Pleasant. I have attached the latest email I sent out about the PowWow below. I'd love to have you join us!

Other things on my immediate radar are an energy Conference in DC that I will be attending, continuing the fight against Elliott-Larsen expansion and other bad bills put forward in lame duck, my daughter Meghan's birthday, interviewing staff, researching and considering my first pieces of legislation, planning the PowWow, and picking out our Christmas tree from Janke's Tree Farm in Allegan!
